Jonathan Levin has been appointed the next president of Stanford University, the Board of Trustees announced today.

Stanford’s active investment holdings in fossil fuels have declined more than 90% to now represent less than 1.5% of the university’s Merged Pool, the Board reported as it outlined further efforts in support of the clean-energy transition.

At its meetings this week, the Board of Trustees also heard about current projects in the arts, took action on building projects and heard from the new leader of Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital.

At its December meeting, the board also discussed federal tax proposals affecting higher education and honored departing trustee Vaughn Williams.

The Board of Trustees provides an update to the Stanford community on its consideration of investment responsibility matters — including an upcoming review of the university’s investment responsibility statement and the conclusion of a review of investment issues around private prisons.

At its Oct. 2-3 meeting, the Stanford University Board of Trustees heard a presentation from President Marc Tessier-Lavigne, honored former chair Steven A. Denning, toured the new Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford and approved building projects.

Jeffrey S. Raikes, who joined the Stanford University Board of Trustees in January 2012, took the helm as chair in July and will lead his first meeting of the board this fall.
